Qsheeba, thank you for responding to my last letter. I actually have a very bad memory, but the letters I wrote home to my parents help me a lot. On the other hand the years I spent in East Africa and specially in Uganda - I think - were the most important years in my life. I got married in Nairobi, our 2 children were born in Uganda and I really loved East Africa from the first minute I went ashore in Mombasa. I, therefore, have got very pleasant memories which I will never forget.
The kids were very sad when they heard that their Oma died. I was very glad that they both were at an age to remember their Oma. You see, when I was born people in Germany died far earlier than to-day. I only had one grandmother, whom I really loved very much and until this day I admire her. I think of her many, many times. My other grandmother died when I was just a little over 2 years old. As we lived quite far away from her I did not see her too often and I cannot remember her. Both my grandfathers died long before I was born.
I think that the family is very important for the children. When they know their roots they also know who they are and they don't have to find themselves.
