Scams set to move on a gear...

http://www.monitor.co.ug/news/news03159.php  Although this article was dealing with wealthy or well-to-do families who had fallen victim to a Meddy Kitumbira, I cannot help but question what our existing information networks in Uganda especially in educational institutions such as universities where I understand such scams from the internet especially can be rife. For a while now, such persons like Kitumbira have been scamming people off the net with letters requesting accounts to deposit large sums of money from fallen regimes etc or promises of having won a lottery.  Some persons on ground locally have bought into these scams, modified them to suit their target victims desires i.e visa scams or land titles amongst all else! Where in the hell is the Ugandan government's intervention with their information machinery to curtail the numbers of persons falling prey to such cowboys? One can be excused to think that perhaps this is a government backed practice for those ruthless enough to scam others in society due to the ill-equipped facilitation of information warning and educating people on ground!  This is a social disease almost akeen to the spread of HIV!

    SB

I cannot believe this type of scam has reached our local society!!!  I thought the well to do would be more survey(sp) than what this clown was offering and doing.  Giving up the money and property to someone they don't know.  Maybe this begs the question, are men keeping two families who do not know about each other and giving the scamers ammunition to use to extort money from the real family!!!  Honest is the best policy

Let this be a lesson to all

The Nigerians claim that, they are coning people because of their greed, “…only those who have a lot, are the ones who want more without going into details” (the Nigerian scam excuse). What this guy does is more like the Nigerian scam and it will creep down to the average earning families people should just be smarter with their money.

Re: Scams ..."are men keeping two families who do not know about each other"

QS - You shed an angle to this discussion I had not considered and I thank you for bringing it to the fore. "are men keeping two families who do not know about each other" hence giving ammunition to the scammers?

It would most definitely appear to be the case that this may be the root cause.  Dishonesty from the offset.

Without making excuses for men who go on to father children outside of marriage - some of us ladies are not entirely blameless to what sometimes leads men to hide their 'falls from grace'!  Gone are the days whereupon one was raised by more than one maternal mother in any given homestead...It's a case of "you dare stray out of this marital bed and I learn of it - you won't know what hit you" and you are damned if the evidence is there too!  Getting half of the marital possesions will be the least of most men's worries!  Back then, it was a case of how to protect your indiscretions from the wrath of your wife's/mistress' witchcraft towards the offspring - now it is the monetary assets no doubt...

So in comes the scammers who are very happy to settle the score on all fronts!

Thanks for the link Conceptx. It's true dat. Greed begets none other  - if one rushes in to attend a party without even knowing what it is in aid of, they shouldn't turn around and complain when the host hands them across to be the main dish...
