Thank you for this article!
Given the state of roads in and around the Kla, I'd say yes - getting around Kla is some kind of a sport as you have to dodge the hijackers in addition to the potholes already mentioned. Perhaps a way of balancing the over-reliance on such vehicles in the first instance aside from the obvious one of sorting out the roads, would be to introduce road tolls for SUVs users, an increased taxation on purchasing such vehicles in addition to usage around town. I'm not even going to go into public education as the perpetuators of such ways of living are most often so-called celebrities who assume it's a right of passage to be seen driving around in such vehicles irrespective of terrain. So such 'self-made' celebs can prolly foot the increased taxation seeing as they are very eager to publicise their net worth to all and sundry.
On the point of stability for such vehicles - I'd be more inclined to go with the a design flaw element in the way such vehicles are made especially if any of you ever took the time to listen to a documentary on Firefox, the US company that manufactures tyres for such vehicles. Straight road driving is fine for such vehicles, but not if you are going around winding bends and taking care not to hit potholes or boulders. For this you are better off with a Jeep/landrover! I prolly will stand to be corrected...
Secondaly, if owners of vehicles are to be somewhat penalised for using/owning such vehicles, I'd say a move towards public awareness to take KCC to courts for not honouring their duties needs to be addressed. Perhaps this can be a rapid access legal route as there's a need for KCC to take their obligations seriously. Where is the breakdown in how people's taxes are utilised and if so, how can they explain the potholes, inadequate paving structure along with open sewage drains in and around the city in addition to all this constant digging during the day which is a nuisance to pedestrians and those using vehicles? Can such work not be carried out at nighttime?
Thirdly - a restriction or ban of goods/delivery vehicles in and around the city. Heavy goods vehicles such as lorries etc should have a restrictive radius around town - such vehicles are not only hazardous in densely populated areas, but are the main cause of destroying road networks. What in the hell is happening to opening up a rail network to transport goods around the country?? Even kayola had some use in days gone!
