The best I could do was publicize this in the kenyan quarters finally.

All of a sudden charity with children is chic that one is not sure if the vote ought to be cast for who can best deliver this!

Finally, that's why I think some of us are dragging our feet on this one... - that said, may the best lady win.  These are some very brave ladies I must say!

Thanks for the feedback Sugarbabes... can't be perfect the first time around... its a learning process and mistakes will be made till perfected.

Anything that makes an attempt to promote Africa needs to be promoted and give advice so that we can improve the next time around.

We are about to interview Winnie the organizer who basically runs this thing almost the same way we run UGPulse... with a lot of heart and commitment.

What do you want us to ask Winnie so that we give her your questions and comments in the interview?

Thanks Admin and I appreciate what's being hoped to be achieved here.

It would be interesting to know (perhaps without giving away trade secrets!) how the contestants are picked or screened.  Is Winnie going to be amongst the jugding panel?  Are the contestants required to be in the service industry or aiming towards that?  Which parts of Switzerland are each of these contestants representing as this is quite a vast country?  Do any of the contestants have any direct connections with Africa or would they be willing to associate their candidature with sponsoring a rural programme back in Africa which can be sited? Does the pageant sponsor any African projects?

Re: Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: The Contestants

I made my pick but the provisional results showed me my choice was trailing behind the leader by a wide margin. Suddenly I started doubting my beauty 'spotting' skills.

Anyway, how come there r so many foreign (by that I mean European) surnames among the contestants yet all I am saeeing are black faces? What's the big deal? Have the chosen stage names like the Bebe Cools, Wines and Chameleons?

She surely didn't take a leaf out of Miss Britain's book by sleeping with one of the judges?

Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: Winnie Ojanga

Re: Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: Winnie Ojanga

Winnie and Admin - thank you for answering our questions and giving us an insight into what at first sight might appear to be a frivolous business.

From all accounts it sounds like hard work to organise and run and made even more difficult because one is dealing with human emotions - female at that!  I hope you get more sponsors involved (especially africans) in this pageantry - talking of which,  would african clothes designers such as Sylvia Awori etc, can they not be brought in to this?  In addition, surely we have skin care products from african companies that could also participate in such events - there goes my wayward mind...

I wish all the ladies an enjoyable experience over the coming week and on the day the competition is staged. I am however sorry for the lady that had to be disqualified - it couldn't have been easy for her to deal with this but hopefully she can find another way to achieve what she wants in life.

Ps.  You look very beautiful in the traditional garb Winnie.  Thank you once more for your time!

Re: Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: Winnie Ojanga

How come people say that they disqualify a girl just because shes married. Is it a sin to be Married? God didnt said so!!!

Look yourself, shes the one on the cover picture when you reach to the Miss Kenya Swiss Link.

On one side Kenyans are disqualified and on the other side there are girls still inside the contest who are not Kenyans.

Some they are swiss without Kenyan-Passport and some they are ugandans...THIS IS NOT SERIOUS!

This is a opportuniti to bring Kenyans up who are living in switzerland.

I think this is the meaning of Miss Kenya Swiss..

We just hope that all the sponsor money for this event really reach by these charity organisations in Kenya.

Because people who were working for Miss Kenya Swiss 2005 said it didnt.

You can never get rich saying you help poor people. This is bad and you will never success...

Re: Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: Winnie Ojanga

I think you guys are being unfair.  Every competition has rules and regulations. Being disqualified does not mean one is evil or guilty of some crime.... it simply means that there were some rules that were set in place beforehand and you simply did not fit the profile.

Beauty pageants worldwide set such rules... age, sex, marriage status...etc.

Why should Miss Kenya Swiss be any different? Winnie desrves the right to set rules here and there to remain proffessional.

As to wanting it to be PURE Kenyans that compete, this is a Kenya Swiss contest so I guess only those with European heritage will be allowed by Spy's Miss Kenya Swiss. Its a shame that Africans find it necessary cut themselves off other Africans.  I'm sure Winnie would hold a Miss Africa Swiss if she could but only chose Kenya because this is all that she can handle right now.

Note that one of the most successful Miss Uganda was actually half West African.

Re: Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: Winnie Ojanga

Spy, I think you are getting the whole thing wrong.  What Winnie is doing is a Miss Kenya Swiss and not a MRS. Kenya Swiss or did I miss something? You must be having a terrible problem or could you be related to the Mrs. xx who was disqualified? Winnie has clearly stated in her interview that
" In general, one qualifies if one is descended from Kenya, resident in Switzerland, is single and is between 17 and 27 years of age. Other criteria like ability to speak at least one Swiss language, one Kenyan national language, knowledge of Kenya and Switzerland also come into play"

"We do have 2 girls with Ugandan citizenship but with part Kenyan parentage participating in this years contest"

Did she talk about passports? Please reread her answers before opening your mouth! Winnie is just trying to give young girls with Kenyan roots who live in Switzerland a platform. Keep up the good job Winnie! God bless you more! Hey, you can actually clarify with their beneficiary for 2005 if they received their donations ok?

Re: Miss Kenya Swiss 2006: Winnie Ojanga

Rose, advice her to join a Mrs. Kenya Swiss if there is any.  You seem to have a first hand information about the disqualified lady. Do you know her?? or is it you? Fact is, she was just in a wrong place.Winnie has just done the right thing. Rules must not be bent.
Spy,let me correct you, From my understanding the pure Kenyan lady was disqualified because she did not meet the pageant entry qualifications, besides  Winnie is looking for young girls with Kenyan roots who are single. They could be having Swiss passports or Ugandan passports but Kenyan blood/roots is in them ok??? Please try and broaden your knowledge a little....
I do think that in Kenya they also hold a Miss Kenya for pure Kenyans with Kenyan passports annually in Nairobi. For heavens sake, this is Miss Kenya Swiss even the name speaks for itself. I find it great what Winnie is doing down there. Keep it up! By the way,You look great in that maasai clad!
