Ugandan exporters fail to meet EU quality standards

The Ug media of late has been awash amongst other coverage in the business sector of the banned cargo planes operated by Ugians in European countries.  Ultimate media's recent coverage on this on-going saga http://www.ugpulse.com/articles/daily/news.asp?ID=2059 makes me question why it is taking long for those in the exporting business in Ug to take on board what so many persons have been pointing out.  Since the debate on brand uganda started, persons have been calling out for ways in which to best market our national goods/products and packaging and presentation was one of those highlighted.  The other factor which is probably behind this drive that EU has placed on Ugandan or other developing nations exporting to these lands is due to the increasing pressure from their own home based industries as well as from environmental bodies which are against the use of exported goods that rely on air freight.  Perhaps this ought to be an opportunity for the Ugandan exporting industry to look close to home countries within Africa to set up trade agreements that work locally. I'm no business analyst, and would welcome a perspective from someone qualified in that area to share their views.

Ironically, whilst the developed nations are embarking on fighting carbon emissions caused by air freight etc, Uganda's Tourism is taking off as we have recently run 3rd in the poll for tourism within Africa behind Tunisia!

Is it farm produce exports that we are talking about? If so, everyone know how the current government has dropped framing from it’s priorities so what’s the fuss with we can’t produce to standards (by the president) or does he expect the industries to thrive with this electricity “turmoil”.

I agree with Sugarbabes, lets go local though am wondering where we are going to sell the Roses…

Talk about roses, did anyone buy you roses Sugarbabes? while you were in Ug.

Sad no roses bought for me when over there other than those seen growing wildly etc!  But I did have a whale of a time!  Ug is one beautiful yet extreme country in all there is - wish I'd been able to stay a bit longer to explore more.
