 Newly released British documents contain a claim by an unnamed contact that the Shin Bet security service collaborated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine to hijack the June 1976 flight from Israel that was diverted to Entebbe, Uganda, the BBC reported Friday. Israel's rescue of the dozens of hostages taken in the hijacking of the Air France plane, popularly known as the Entebbe raid, is considered one of the most daring and successful operations in Israeli history. Elite Israel Defense Forces troops stormed the airport where the hostages, many of them Israeli, were held and overpowered the hijackers and Ugandan soldiers. Although the captors used the hijacking to demand the release of Palestinians or Palestinian supporters, a British government file on the incident quotes the unnamed source as telling a British diplomat in Paris that Israel was behind the hijacking. The claim is not known to be backed up by corroborating evidence, and the file does not make it clear whether the British government took the claim seriously."The operation was designed to torpedo the PLO's standing in France and to prevent what they see as a growing rapprochement between the PLO and the Americans," the BBC report said British diplomat D.H. Colvin wrote in the document, citing his source. "My contact said the PFLP had attracted all sorts of wild elements, some of whom had been planted by the Israelis," Colvin reportedly wrote. "According to his information, the hijack was the work of the PFLP, with help from the Israeli Secret Service, the Shin Beit." The document was written on June 30, 1976, three days after the hijacking and prior to the rescue operation.

thanks for this posting. quite interesting indeed. I was a boy scout and studying in Kampala at that time .... I remember the details very well. and I have seen the film Entebbe Raid

Are you aware that because of Amins Love for the PLO the Palestinians were given to land in Entebbe for Amin to show solidarity with those who opposed the Imperialists and colonialists and zionists as he used to call them.

 Oh yes Amin at one time had to repeat his marriage ceremony the foolowing day prior to the Kampala OAU meeting in 1975, and since the national did not know about the marriage he asked PLO leader YASAR ARAFAT to be his best man and he asked the ceremony be repeated the following day and had to be put on national media  and news -- he said  it will be put on TV for pipo to LISTEN -yes to listen, and be put on RADIO UGANDA for pipo to  SEE ,yes to see !!! and so it was

 And are you aware that because of Amins love for the Palestinians he ended up giving them LAND IN KIGUMBA  Masindi District, Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom www.bunyoro-kitara.com  and we had Palestine carved out of Uganda and Kigumba was officially the land of the Palestinians. Why Kigumba of all places? were the Palestinians sensing or targeting the Bunyoro Oil that would one day be exported? No wonder he ended up proposing that Kigumba Town is central in Uganda be  built to a level of a city and be made the capital city of Uganda. The current NRM government is embarrased not knowing what to do because now some 20 years later the pipo in Kigumba who were displaced by Amins decree and the land taken away from them and given to the Palestinians now want their land back. but that land had become public land of government !!!  quite embarassing indeed for the current NRM government.

Thank you for the article.  My question is why would Isreal use his own ppl to make a point!! But then you have politicians playing the game of power and the regular person pays the ultermate price.  Please tell me it is not so!!! 

I didn’t know about this but these kinds of collaborations stopped surprising me, for example who trained the Al-Qaeda to withdraw the Soviets from Afghanistan.

The Brits and Isrealis were aware of and colluded with Amin's 1971 coup.So can't be surpirised at this revelation, wat pisses me off is the Isrealis denial, claimng anti-semitism.Tiica are there any palestines leaving in Kigumba now,what happened did they settle after Amin gave them the land.

yes the Palestinians (Palez - as called by wanaichi) settled in Kigumba and began a big Agricultural Farm project,

 but when Amin run away , their compass was destroyed and lost sense of direction.... their presence became  PAST TENSE-- their farm as usual looted thru and thru by wanaichi and fleeing-attacking troops in those days..... may be the Palez will come back - - who NOSE?-- the Asians came back !!! But as of now no sight of a palestinian...... may be thats why Amin wanted to make KIGUMBA be built into the CAPITAL CITY of Uganda claiming that it was in the center of Uganda between north and south, east and west
