Thank you so much Sonja for the history.  You are so amazing after so many years you still remember things as if it was yesterday.  How did the kids deal with the loss of Oma after you told them?

    Re: Letters from Sonja: Oma

Qsheeba, thank you for responding to my last letter. I actually have a very bad memory, but the letters I wrote home to my parents help me a lot. On the other hand the years I spent in East Africa and specially in Uganda - I think - were the most important years in my life. I got married in Nairobi, our 2 children were born in Uganda and I really loved East Africa from the first minute I went ashore in Mombasa. I, therefore,   have got very pleasant memories which I will never forget.

The kids were very sad when they heard that their Oma died. I was very glad that they both were at an age to remember their Oma.  You see, when I was born people in Germany died far earlier than to-day. I only had one grandmother, whom I really loved very much and until this day I admire her. I think of her many, many times.  My other grandmother died when I was just a little over 2 years old. As we lived quite far away from her I did not see her too often and I cannot remember her. Both my grandfathers died long before I was born.

I think that the family is very important for the children. When they know their roots they also know who they are and they don't have to find themselves.

    Sonja

You are right about children growing up knowing their grandparents.  I grew up knowing my maternal grandparent and I loved them a lot.  Unfortunately I was deprieved of my paternal grandparents because of issues of triblism between my parents and their relatives.  By the time I met them, I could not bond with them as closely as I did with my maternal grandparents.  Needless to say I loved them all.  I dream about them all the time.  It is interesting I dream about my grandparents when I get stressed and they are always giving good directions.  I still think they watch over me.

It is good to see here, I cannot wait for your next letter.  I will call you this coming weeked

Hi Qsheeba, I am back at home and I am OK. Although the hiking week was very nice, I was very tired afterwards. We had wonderful weather, summer in April! I wanted to put a picture here, but I cannot manage. I will send you some separately.

I have seen, you are very busy writing and I liked your picture showing you in the underground and the flower pictures, of course.
