An era of school strikes again?

Iam just wondering what has happened to the education system and to our youth and to our schools in Uganda.?

We are witnessing a new era of school strikes in secondary schools, post secondary institutions, and in tertiary institutions at a rate faster that it was in the 70s(Amins Days) and in the 80s. Its the burning and destruction of the infrustructure in the shools affected and one wonders the root cause of all this and what could be the solution? What type of leaders are we preparing for tomoorow? what has gone wrong with the system?

Some time back in Feb 07 it was Nyakasura High School in Kabarole Distrisct on strike that the school had not got any first grades in S4 UNEB  results for 2006, but only to find out after the strike that the truth of the matter is that the school had got a lot of first grades in the S4 Exams. And damage had already been done to the school' infrustructure. What is happening? Are there similar examples in schools abroad? the solution?

Too much time on their hands my dear! In my day every waking minute was dedicated to study if you were in an educational institution and anyway the thought of your bazeyi being called to see your head teacher because you had been up to no good put the fear of God into any would be strikers! Not that my parents terrorised me or anything, we just knew our place whilst in school!

If it's going to be it's up to me

While seya was lying in coma in an Arab hospital, his sons were reported to be cruising his Hummer, picking up girls and partying in K'la. Welcome to today's youngsters!

In relation to Butterfly's comments, this is the bit I still dont get! Most of southern Uganda has always had a lot of food but this food never made/still doesn't make it into schools. I wonder why?

Iam just wondering what has happened...

Children’s rights, Rap and Rock Music (angry and feisty artist), Freedom; it’s the new generation what did you expect??? (duh!!!) lol
I think these are some of the reasons to youngsters’ aggression but, it’s some of the same stuff that sparks creativity (especially freedom)… so you loose you win some.
I also think parents have little time with their children these days. dad works 10hrs a day and in the evening he joins his buddys for The Premiership, and mum works upcountry for some NGO...

Re: An era of school strikes again? Feeling old

In church yesterday, the reverend told us about a friend of his who was embarassed by his 8 yr old son. The friend returned home unusually early (late afternoon) to receive some guests. When after the father greeted the guests, the son went: "Wow dad! Nice 2 see u during the day. U always come back so late at night, staggering. I am impressed u too can walk in a straight line like the rest of us!"

Mbu that is the day the guy stopped drinking!
