    Re: Acid Attack Survivors

Its a shame that this practice of throwing acid at another person has come to our society Uganda. Whatever the quarell one has with another, but to resolve the quarell should never be by throwing acid on to another person. Some time back in the late 60s and th 70s and 80s it was the throwing of hot boiling water to another person -- but now things have gone far and too far to the point of throwing ACID. This practice should be condemned in the strongest terms possible.

And am grateful to those who are offering assistance for plastic surgery that is being given to the victims of Acid thrown on them. But it seems most of the time its the modern way of revenging on those who seem to be cheating on the marital rights of  a spouse. One wonders why all anger on the rise in marital infidelity? or is as in some cases that the victims sometimes may be innocent and are falsely accused and given the punishment that was too big and too harsh?

And if I may ask: how does one feeel after he has carried out the act of throwing Acid onto others?Does that perosn have a conscience at all? Can he or she be doing it for money because he/she is hired to do so? Could it be that poverty and  greed for money has led to acid throwing thing?

Bannage, ensi eno nzibu! Unbelievable! a shame!

Ensi eno nzibu indeed. We all probably have dark sides to us but I guess how easily we succumb to evil thoughts & deeds depends on how low our morals and lack of consience are. People who throw or sponsor acid attacks against rivals are the lowest of the lowest!

    God Bless all victims.

Good article Fiona. It's good to see a glimmer of hope for the victims of this heinous crime and the redress beginning to emerge.  Imposing levies on the aquisition of acid coupled with close monitoring of those buying it, is definitely a way forward in arresting the easy access to this chemical.  For sure the work of the organisation dealing with those affected by this crime has gained momentum. It is the hope that with more public awareness, society will come round to showing compassion to those affected with living in this mask of the effects from such attacks.
