    SCHOOL TERM DATES IN UGANDA

A little while back a friend of mine and myself decided to take advantage of discounted half-term holidays for our families through a network for single parents.  The only thing we had to worry about was providing the details of all of our brood along with a nominal booking fee.  It was to be my first time to experience the British type of holiday camps I must admit, and ones which appear to be quite popular for the young ones.  Personally, I'd opt to stick it out..., but hey, when you are a parent, you sometimes have to grit your teeth and bare it.

The dates on which we were given as I've said were to fall during school term holidays.  Now the network group is based in a different borough or area to one I reside in.  As a result, the dates chosen by our network group, picked the dates for when the kids would be on half term in that borough.  Being the type with sieve brain, I just agreed assuming it would be fine with my kids' school.  Its only later when I went to prepare the kids school diaries that I noticed my error...Now imagine the lies I later had to invent to get the kids off school so that they got to join in the fun with my friends' kids!  Of course this paves the way for them to lie to the school I've come to understand...and for that I fully accept my irresponsibility!!!

Some of you are prolly wondering what the heck all this ramblings is about.  Ok. You have suffered enough of my verbatism.

The point I want to make is, why has the education system in Uganda not revised school term dates nationally so that they are staggered according to regions or zones.  This would cut down on the madness that befalls cities in the rush leading up to taking kids back to school spanning from banks, carparks, roads and manpower hours not to mention other headaches I will not go into.  Does it require scientific research to get this implemented?
