Give way, I've got private licence plates.

Ugandans with a dime to show have invented all sorts of words/symbols on private licence/number plates worn by their cars. This flamboyant messenger of The Lord decided to use this:

    In Luganda, 'Kiwedde' means 'Done'.

Have u seen any flashier car with private plates?

Re: Give way, I've got private licence plates.

Is this ironical?  is the acquisition of a Hummer the ultimate symbol of someone making it or someone who has made it? But at what cost? Does the driver of such a vehicle sleep peacefully or do they worry that whilst they are asleep someone will steal it or parts of it? Dont get me wrong I am not a spoil sport but what are the consequences of owning such a vehicle in a country that scores very highly in the poverty  indeces?

If it's going to be it's up to me

Its a status symbol, simply put!

It shows that you have arrived

It tells other people that you are a notch(actually more like MANY notches) above them , they shouldn't be expecting lifts

But given the cost of fuel and maintenance, many wanna-be show-offs soon find out the hard way that while getting such a MONSTER is easy, maintaining it is another matter

Potential : FDC, Eat This, CHOGM, OWINO, UGANJA

But the car has to be worth the plates. I recall once seeing a toyota carina with personalized plates. the logic didn't hit me.

the carina goes for 8-12 M from Japan. the Plates go for 2-3M.

    CHOGM wheels

Gov't officials hand over their official cars/limousines:

    http://www.monitor.co.ug/news/news11024.php

Ms Kataike said government officials who surrender their cars are provided with alternative means of transport like government buses and omnibuses which will pick and drop them to and from their places of work.

"Those who can't use the buses will find their own means," she said adding that the requirement cuts across all government officials including the ministers and state ministers whose vehicles will be taken.
"We don't see anyone refusing to hand in the cars because these are not their cars but the government's," she said.

Ok. Am I missing a trick here? If these gov't officials can use gov't buses and public means 4 CHOGM, why can't they do so at other times? In otherwords, do they need the limousines at all?

    The Queens CHOGM wheels:

Her convoy usually had 2 Range Rovers; this black 1 and the silver 1 in which her and her hubby rode. Apparently these are 2008 models and made their 1st public appearance in UG. (None has been sold 2 the public yet).  It is claimed that u can't roll this car. Mbu neither can u get it to make a frontal collision with a still object...

I very much doubt these wheels will stay in UG. Prolly be flown back 2 UK 4 HM's use. Apparently last time el Presidento had a Range Rover, he sent it back 2 the manufacturers coz his drivers couldn't handle it... Embarrassed
